When it comes to all the issues worldwide the main one that comes to mind to me is helping those in need, in particular the Homeless. The reason for this is because driving from place to place your more than likely to always see a homeless person in the street asking for money. I would never wish for anybody to have to deal with this type of life and only hope for these people to receive any type of help and to get them back on their feet to help them have a place they can call home. If everyone were to help by donating or even volunteering to shelters or even events to help those in need, it can help raise awareness of how serious of an issue it really is to have these poor people wondering around starving and without any place to go. Here in the United States, we have more than enough space to give these people homes and have more than enough resources to get them the help they may need, such as medication, food, water, and even clothes for them to have in either to keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The questions we should have is not how did they end up like that but should be how may I Help them in either for them to have a better life.

Starbucks is one of America’s famous coffee companies that has over 28,000 locations worldwide, and while serving coffee is what it’s known for, they actually have a side mission of having a social impact for the communities around them. On their main website they have a whole section where they talk about some of the things they are doing in order to achieve a global social impact ranging from supporting the neighborhoods around with job opportunities to helping students graduate college. Starbucks has a program with Arizona State University in where they provide full and part time employees with a paid tuition until they receive their Bachelors. While Starbucks receives their coffee and tea products from farms they also support these farmers by providing the communities in these farms with the help needed in either for them to have an improved lifestyle.

While Starbucks continues their ongoing social impact in the world, they like to show what that they are doing for the good of the people by using popular social media such as Twitter, Instagram, facebook and Pinterest. By using social media they are able to share their views or ways they benefit helping others and how they enjoy doing it. Even the New York Times took notice of how a big corporate business uses its profits to help out within different communities in the world by stating in the article named Howard Schultz, Starbucks and a History of Corporate Responsibility how “While corporate profits might seem incongruous with doing social good” (Mohn,2017) the CEO of Starbucks is different and counters that argument as he does things to improve peoples lives and areas around with the profits the business makes. With all this in mind people can now see that their money towards their morning/daily coffee or drink from Starbucks goes to a better cause.

In the video “Connected, but Alone“, Sherry Turkle talks about how all these devices that we use today are changing us in the way we communicate and are with each other. There were two points in the video in where it really made me think about what she was saying, the first which was where she mentions how a boy tells her how he wants to learn how to have an actual conversation face to face and not by text. That was one thing I was able to relate with as I seem to have conversations with people easier through text than by phone or face to face. It always was something I wondered why it was so much more difficult than texting, but afterwards now realized it was mainly because of how I’m used to communicating. The second point was where she mentions a more advanced Siri that would be able to listen to us, now at first it seems like a great idea, but in reality I don’t see it having the same effect on people as that of having some other person listening to you. Siri is an artificial intelligence whereas a human is an actual person who would be able to share similar feelings or have a better connection with what one is saying. Basically what I learned from this Ted Talk is that soon we won’t have the need for face to face conversations as our electronic devices are becoming so advanced that they will be able to do everything from it.

In the article “These are Six Communication Styles that Every Single Person Uses“, mentions that there are six different styles of communication that by the age of seven, we have chosen certain ones to become our bases of speaking. Out of the six different ones, there were two that i felt most connected to, Reactive Language and Action Language. Reactive language is when one doesn’t have a filter when they speak, in which i really don’t, because most of the time I have to apologize when i say things as some things don’t come out as I wanted it to. The other which is Action language is “using a lot of verbs”. The reason why this one has a connection with my way of communicating is because the examples given for this form of talking are sayings like “Let’s go for it” and “Cut to the chase”, which are both things I say a lot, while they may not be the exact same things I say, they are close to the way I think. After reading the article and seeing which of the six styles of communication I mostly connected with made me wonder which of them do the people I communicate with most use and also think about how much of a difference it makes because of the different styles we use.

If I had business, I for sure would make having a technical writer one of my top priorities. A technical writer is more important than one would believe in the business world as they provide important roles when it comes to what they can do. It’s important to have one as they would make sure any type of document that comes out of my business is as best as it can be when it comes to clarity to what its supposed to inform. As mentioned in the article “Why is technical writing important to business” it mentions how the documents that come out from your business shows how much you care about it and represents your business in a bigger way than one may believe. Another role for a technical writer would be to gather information about certain things that would benefit the business. Technical writers are used to gathering information as they provide the information that goes into the documents which would better the business know things that would give it the upper hand. As one may see, technical writers do have bigger roles than just writing instructions, without them many business documents would not be as professional as they should be.

For my future plans all i have in mind is to become a police officer. As of now i am currently taking classes at the University of North Texas at Dallas in either for me to receive my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. With this degree i have more options when it comes to joining the force and also helps if i plan on moving up in ranks throughout my career.
